What is a women's health supplement?

Women's health supplements cover the formulas designed for the stages specific to women's bodies: menstrual cycle, fertility, pregnancy, post-partum, breastfeeding and menopause. Unlike generic multivitamins, these products target a specific life stage, with active ingredients and dosages to match.

They include traditional plants such as shatavari, moringa or alfalfa, minerals such as iron and magnesium, and a range of formats: capsules, chewable gummies, powders to dilute. The market has changed a great deal: the format now counts as much as the formula.

How we selected the best brands

Our assessment grid rests on three criteria, applied without going easy on anyone.

1. Real dosages and transparency

We check whether dosages are shown to the milligram, and above all which serving they correspond to. A brand that quotes its figures for the maximum dose, without saying so, artificially inflates its label. The extraction ratio and the standardisation, when they are published, make all the difference.

2. Origin and manufacturing

We look at the place of manufacture, the laboratory's certifications, whether independent testing exists and whether there is an organic certification. We also check the origin of the raw materials, often left unsaid, even though manufacturing in France says nothing about where the plants come from.

3. Claim compliance

This is where we are strictest. In Europe, botanical claims are still awaiting their assessment by EFSA. A brand that promises a specific figure within a few days steps outside the regulatory framework, and we flag it in our reviews.

What are women's health supplements for?

Each life stage has its own needs, and the ranges are organised around those moments.

Cycle and menstrual comfort

Formulas designed to support the menstrual cycle, often built around traditional plants and magnesium.

Pregnancy, post-partum and breastfeeding

The most tightly regulated period of all. Medical advice is essential: several plants are not recommended during pregnancy, and the contraindications should be read before any purchase.

Menopause and perimenopause

A segment long ignored by laboratories, now taken up by dedicated brands that are finally building a readable offering.

The women's health brands we have tested

We have compared French and international brands, from the treat-style gummy to the clinical capsule sold in pharmacies. Each product is assessed on:

  • the honesty of the dosages and the serving actually recommended;
  • the quality of the manufacturing and of independent testing;
  • the compliance of the messaging and the clarity of the contraindications.

In short

Women's health is not a marketing angle, it is a real need that was neglected for a long time. Our aim is to point you towards brands that are honest about their dosages and careful with their promises, setting aside those that overplay effectiveness. And let us say it again: no supplement replaces the advice of a midwife or a doctor.
