What's really in mushroom supplements: the 7 Mush N Go formulas, ingredient by ingredient

What is in the Mush N Go range, formula by formula?

The French brand sells two very different formats, and that is the first thing to grasp before comparing anything.

On one side, Brainstoorm, a mushroom coffee to dissolve, sold in a 255 g tub. On the other, six capsule formulas each built around a specific goal: Focus, Energy, Immunity, Anti-Stress, Sleep + and Muscle Recovery.

Those six share a common logic. They pair one or two adaptogenic mushrooms, reishi, chaga, cordyceps, oyster mushroom or lion's mane, with plants or micronutrients aimed at the same goal. Never a single isolated active, always a combination.

The price is the same across the range, 42.71 € a box, which works out between 0.77 € and 1.42 € a day depending on how long you take it. Indicative prices recorded in September 2026. Here is the full breakdown, as shown on the product pages.

One thing jumps out when you line the seven rows up: the orders of magnitude have nothing to do with each other. You read 5,000 mg of ashwagandha in the Anti-Stress and 260 mg of chaga in the Immunity. You might conclude the first formula is twenty times stronger than the second. That would be a reading error, and it is exactly what the next section is about.

Pile of dried mushrooms, precision scale and a small bowl of concentrated extract powder.

How do you read the doses printed on a supplement label?

This is the point almost no brand explains clearly, and the one that changes everything as soon as you try to compare two products.

A concentrated extract has nothing in common with raw powder. The extract ratio tells you how much raw material it takes to obtain 1 gram of extract. First trap: it is not a single figure valid across a whole range. At Mush N Go it changes from one formula to the next, by a factor of five between the extremes.

  • Focus: 11 to 1
  • Immunity and Muscle Recovery: 13 to 1
  • Sleep +: 15 to 1, stated on fresh reishi
  • Energy: 20 to 1
  • Anti-Stress: 50 to 1, stated on ashwagandha root

That ratio serves to concentrate the molecules we actually care about: beta-glucans and triterpenes on the mushroom side, withanolides on the ashwagandha side. Weight for weight, a 13:1 extract delivers far more bioactive compounds than plain dried powder. Setting an 11:1 against a 50:1 to crown a winner, on the other hand, makes no sense: an ashwagandha root does not concentrate the way a mushroom fruiting body does.

The problem is that manufacturers do not all print the same number. Some state the amount of extract actually in the capsule. Others state the raw material equivalent, meaning the quantity of plant it took to make that extract.

At Mush N Go the two conventions coexist depending on the formula, which can be confusing:

  • Immunity and Muscle Recovery show values that correspond to the extract itself: 260 mg of chaga, 360 mg of turmeric.
  • Anti-Stress, Energy and Sleep + show the raw material equivalent: 5,000 mg of ashwagandha, 1,920 mg of cordyceps, 1,950 mg of reishi.

Concretely, the 5,000 mg of ashwagandha in the Anti-Stress corresponds, at the 50 to 1 ratio, to around 100 mg of concentrated extract per dose. A different way of writing it, not a bad dose.

The rule to remember when you compare two supplements: always check whether the printed figure refers to the extract or the raw equivalent, and whether an extract ratio is stated anywhere. Without that information, comparing two labels means nothing. 🔍

A manufacturer who publishes its ratio at least gives you the means to do the arithmetic yourself. Plenty do not bother.

What is in Brainstoorm, the mushroom coffee?

This is the brand's original product, and the only one in the range that is not taken in capsules. You make it like instant coffee, with hot water or plant milk.

The 255 g tub covers 30 servings, with formats going up to 90. Two flavors are offered, chocolate and coffee, which matters more than it sounds: a daily drink you do not enjoy ends up at the back of the cupboard within two weeks.

The brand does not break down the doses active by active on this reference, unlike the capsules. That is a limitation when you want to compare precisely, and we flagged it in our full Brainstoorm review.

Fundamentally, the value of an adaptogenic mushroom coffee comes mostly from what it replaces: going from a strong espresso to a drink with less caffeine smooths out the energy curve across the morning. 🍄

Why does Focus combine five actives rather than lion's mane alone?

The formula combines lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus), saffron, bacopa monnieri, ginkgo biloba and maritime pine bark. Five actives aiming at concentration and memory through different mechanisms.

Lion's mane is the most studied mushroom of the group on the cognitive side. A Japanese double blind placebo controlled trial, run in 2009 on 30 adults with mild cognitive impairment, observed improved scores during the intake period, with a return to baseline after stopping. The sample is small and the population specific, so caution is needed before extending that to a healthy adult.

Bacopa monnieri was the subject of a meta-analysis of randomized trials in 2014, which points to an effect on information processing speed after several weeks of intake. Saffron has solid data on mood, confirmed by an umbrella meta-analysis in 2022.

Ginkgo biloba is the most debated of the five. The large American GEM trial, published in JAMA in 2008 on more than 3,000 participants followed for six years, showed no prevention of cognitive decline. Its presence therefore rests on traditional use rather than clinical demonstration.

Worth flagging: the brand states the dose of four actives out of five, but not that of lion's mane, which is the ingredient its own marketing leads with. The information was missing from the product page in September 2026.

How good are the cordyceps and maca in the Energy formula?

Four actives here: cordyceps, maca, ginger and vitamin C. It is the simplest formula in the range, and also the easiest to read.

Cordyceps is traditionally linked to endurance. A double blind trial published in 2010 on healthy older adults measured an improvement in certain ventilatory parameters during exercise, on small numbers.

Maca is mostly documented on sexual desire. A 2002 study in healthy men observed a rise in reported desire with no change in serum testosterone, a nuance often smoothed over in sales copy.

Only vitamin C carries an authorized health claim at European level here, for its contribution to the reduction of tiredness and to normal energy metabolism. Cordyceps, maca and ginger have none, and rest on traditional use.

The absence of caffeine is this formula's real point of difference. It makes it usable late in the day or before an evening session, where a classic pre-workout would cause a sleep problem.

Mush N Go Immunity jar in woodland, surrounded by chaga, reishi and oyster mushrooms.

What do chaga, reishi and oyster mushroom do in the Immunity formula?

Three mushrooms paired with coconut MCT oil, with doses expressed as extract: chaga 260 mg, reishi 240 mg, oyster mushroom 120 mg and MCT 520 mg.

What they have in common is beta-glucans, polysaccharides from the fungal cell wall that are heavily studied on immune modulation. Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is by far the best documented, with a comprehensive review published in 2023 that catalogs the data while underlining the heterogeneity of the extracts tested.

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is mainly known for its antioxidant capacity, and oyster mushroom also provides beta-glucans, with a thinner literature.

The MCT oil is not there by accident: it acts as a lipid carrier to improve absorption of fat soluble compounds. The same choice appears in the Muscle Recovery formula.

Note: none of these three mushrooms carries an authorized health claim in Europe. We are therefore on traditional support, and chaga is not advised in case of kidney problems because of its oxalate content.

How much ashwagandha is really in the Anti-Stress formula?

It is the fullest formula in the range: ashwagandha, reishi, holy basil (tulsi), schisandra, acacia fiber and vitamin B6.

The 5,000 mg of ashwagandha stated corresponds, as we saw, to around 100 mg of concentrated extract at the 50 to 1 ratio. The 2012 benchmark trial used 600 mg a day of full spectrum extract for 60 days, with a fall in serum cortisol in the treated group. The dose here is therefore well below that of the study, a gap worth knowing before expecting comparable effects.

Holy basil and schisandra round out the mix, both adaptogens in traditional use, with far more limited data. Acacia fiber acts as a prebiotic excipient rather than an active.

Only vitamin B6 carries an authorized claim, on normal nervous system function and the reduction of tiredness.

Important precaution: the French agency ANSES has issued nutrivigilance reports on ashwagandha, notably on liver injury. The plant is not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding, nor with thyroid disorders or related treatment. If you want the detail, we devoted a full article to it.

Why is there melatonin in Sleep + on top of the reishi?

Because it is the only ingredient in the whole range with a genuinely solid European health claim on the target it addresses.

The formula pairs reishi 1,950 mg in raw equivalent, valerian 600 mg, magnesium bisglycinate 300 mg, acacia fiber and melatonin. Melatonin carries an authorized claim for reducing the time it takes to fall asleep, at 1 mg before bed. Magnesium carries one too, on normal nervous system function and the reduction of tiredness.

Reishi and valerian rest on traditional use, with highly variable protocols. We set out what the research says on reishi and sleep in a dedicated article.

The choice of bisglycinate deserves a mention: it is a chelated form, better tolerated digestively than the oxide, the kind of detail that separates a considered product from a cheap assembly. 😴

Conditions of use: not advised for pregnant or breastfeeding women, for under 12s, or before any activity requiring sustained alertness, because of the drowsiness risk.

What are turmeric and boswellia doing in Muscle Recovery?

This formula steps outside the classic adaptogen frame, and that is what makes it interesting. It pairs cordyceps and chaga with two anti-inflammatories, turmeric 360 mg and boswellia 180 mg, all carried by 780 mg of MCT oil.

Boswellia (Boswellia serrata) is an Ayurvedic resin whose boswellic acids act on specific inflammatory pathways. A systematic review with meta-analysis published in 2024 assessed a standardized extract in osteoarthritis, with encouraging results on pain. The context remains the osteoarthritic joint, not a sore lifter: the transfer calls for caution.

Turmeric raises the classic bioavailability question, curcumin being poorly absorbed on its own. The presence of MCT oil goes in the right direction, even if pairing it with piperine remains the best documented solution.

Which formula should you choose for your goal?

If you are starting out, Brainstoorm is the simplest way in: it replaces an existing habit instead of adding one.

For a specific goal, the logic reads clearly: Focus for concentration, Energy for endurance without caffeine, Immunity going into winter, Anti-Stress for tense periods, Sleep + for falling asleep, Muscle Recovery if you are stacking sessions.

Two pieces of advice before ordering. Do not stack three formulas at once, several share reishi and adding the doses together serves no purpose. And allow four to six weeks minimum, most of the documented effects on these actives do not appear before that.

Frequently asked questions about Mush N Go's composition

What is the extract ratio of Mush N Go formulas?

It changes with the formula: 11 to 1 on Focus, 13 to 1 on Immunity and Muscle Recovery, 15 to 1 on Sleep +, 20 to 1 on Energy and 50 to 1 on Anti-Stress. There is no single ratio valid for the whole brand.

Do the stated doses refer to the extract or to the raw plant?

Both conventions coexist. Immunity and Muscle Recovery state the amount of extract actually in the capsule. Anti-Stress, Energy and Sleep + state the raw material equivalent, a much higher figure for the same amount of active.

Do all the formulas contain mushrooms?

No. Focus pairs lion's mane with four plants. Sleep + and Anti-Stress rest mainly on plants, with reishi as a supporting ingredient. Only Immunity and Muscle Recovery are predominantly fungal.

Which formula contains the most ashwagandha?

Anti-Stress, with 5,000 mg stated as raw material equivalent, or around 100 mg of concentrated extract per daily dose at the stated 50 to 1 ratio.

Can you combine several formulas?

The brand sells bundles designed for that. The thing to watch is the repetition of reishi, present in Immunity, Anti-Stress and Sleep + alike. If you are on any treatment, ask a health professional.

What is a good extract ratio for a mushroom supplement?

There is no universal threshold, and a high ratio is not automatically better. What matters is that the ratio is stated at all, that you know whether the printed milligrams are extract or raw equivalent, and ideally that the beta-glucan content is given. A product that publishes none of the three is asking you to take its word for it.
